Online seminar by TSPC AUCA on Desertification and Drought Day 2020 in the Kyrgyz Republic

Tian Shan Policy Center at AUCA (TSPC AUCA) is organizing an online event

Food. Feed. Fibre. Sustainable solutions for combating land degradation in Kyrgyzstan.

Date: Wednesday, June 17, 2020 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM Bishkek time (KGT)

Event Description
Desertification and Drought Day – until this year known as The World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought – is observed every year to promote public awareness of national and international efforts to combat desertification. The day is a unique moment to remind everyone that land degradation neutrality is achievable through problem-solving, strong community involvement and co-operation at all levels.
• Today, more than two billion hectares of previously productive land is degraded
• Over 70 per cent of natural ecosystems have been transformed. By 2050, this could hit 90 per cent
• By 2030, food production will require an additional 300 million hectares of land

Join TSPC AUCA for this upcoming webinar to inject optimism and spur action on achieving land degradation neutrality in Kyrgyzstan. Leading experts will give a short overview of the recent land degradation trends in Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia, present initiatives on combating land degradation and discuss sustainable land use practices and approaches.
